Don’t be left in the dark when it comes to home security #security
POLICE in Lancashire are urging people not to be left in the dark with their home security now the clocks have gone back.
Officers are reminding householders to check lighting, security and to brush up on those good habits that may have been relaxed during the summer.
“Crime levels, including burglary figures, are low across Lancashire but it is important that homeowners don’t become complacent."
Lancashire Police spokesperson
“With the dark nights upon us, now is an ideal time to double check security and lighting and make sure that your home is adequately protected.”
Residents are urged to:
- Make sure doors and windows are locked and secure when you leave your home.
- Put house and car keys away safely where they cannot be seen when they are not in use and well away from the doors they unlock.
- Leave a light on in a room and remember to draw the curtains when you go out at night. You can also invest in a timer switch for lights when next shopping. They are now cheaply available from many of the main stores and supermarkets.
- Consider fitting a burglar alarm system – which provides a visible deterrent to the front and back of your home as well as audible warning. Even a cheap DIY one is better than nothing at all.
- Check your outside security lighting is working.
- Check that your tools, spades, ladders, etc that may be left out in your garden or yard are securely locked away.
- Keep the garden tidy with shrubs and trees cut back so they can’t provide a screen for thieves.
- Mark your postcode and house number on your expensive electrical equipment and property with a UV security pen, permanent marker or engraver.
- Beware of the ‘bogus caller’ at the door. Don’t let them in and call the police if you have any concerns about someone who has come calling at the door.
CCTV appeal – Images capture Preston burglary #police #crime #burglary
POLICE are appealing for information following a burglary at a house in Fulwood earlier this week.
The house in the Glencourse Drive area of Fulwood was broken into at around 6pm on Monday evening (22nd October). It is believed the offender has walked down the driveway of the house, through into the back garden and has broken into the kitchen via a rear window.
The offender has then searched the house and has taken a number of items of jewellery, as well as an Acer laptop and a black Nikon camera.
Officers have released CCTV images and are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Paddy O’Neill said, “The person responsible for this was brazen – he has committed this offence in broad daylight in a residential area when there would have been a lot of people about.
“We believe a number of vehicles will have driven past him as he made his way out of the Glencourse Drive and Eastway area and so I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time to think back, and if they remember seeing anything suspicious, to get in touch.”
“Unusually he was wearing distinctive clothing including, a leather look flat cap which had a triangular pattern on the top, grey or black hoodie with a white drawstring and grey pants.”
The man is described as being aged between 25 and 35 years of age, and between five feet eight inches and six feet tall.
Anyone with information can contact police by calling the new non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number DF1203984. Alternatively, information can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

The Science of Security…linking the criminal to the crime scene #dnamarking #security
To ensure we link the criminal to the crime scene, we offer a range of DNA Marking Solutions.
The Science of Security.....linking the criminal to the crime scene
The forensic tag used in the majority of our products is redWeb redDNA™ which is composed of unique biosynthetic redDNA™. RedDNA™ is available as an invisible solution or as a red dye which helps police officers and security personnel to identify a suspect fleeing the crime scene.
Each batch of redDNA™ contains a unique encrypted biosynthetic tag. Once purchased, each batch whether a spray canister or a pot of grease or gel, is registered to an individual user and location.
RedDNA™ contains a red dye which remains on the skin and clothing for several days and an indelible UV dye which can only be seen under UV light. It is this which contains the encrypted biosynthetic tag. Once the redDNA™ trace has been swabbed and tested, the unique tag means that it can be linked back to the crime scene. RedDNA™ is also available as an invisible covert solution, without the coloured dye.
RedWeb Security have worked with the CPS, police, and forensic specialists to ensure that redDNA™ provides irrefutable evidence linking the criminal to the crime scene. To date we have secured many hundreds of detections and gained convictions solely on the evidence of our technologies.
RedDNA™ is a registered trademark of RedWeb Security and a UK and international patent pending formula (GB2439960 and WO08/007060).

Retailers back CCTV as nearly 60% plan to move to IP #cctv #ipcameras
The vast majority of retailers say that CCTV has a direct effect in reducing losses they incur, according to a new survey.
The research – commissioned by Axis Communications and carried out by the Centre for Retail Research – found that of the 261 responses from UK retailers encompassing over 20,300 stores, 85% of them directly attributed the reduction in internal and external shrinkage to the use of CCTV monitoring. Over a third of those saw reductions in losses of between 11% and 50%.
The findings of the survey, which had over 700 responses across Northern Europe, were presented yesterday at the Retail Fraud on the Road conference in Leicester.

Switch your Security Systems #alarms #protectyourbusiness #securitysystems
Using advanced Intruder Alarm Technology, ensuring reduction in false alarms, our intruder alarm systems are professionally designed, installed and maintained. From the outset our security surveyors will design a system that is specific to each of our customer’s needs and requirements, ensuring at the same time all British & European Standards and Police regulations are not only achieved, but are also exceeded.
Fundamentally there are two types of systems available, these being :
- Bells Only or Audible Alarm, these are usually unsuitable for commercial premises and will not provide automatic Police response.
- Remotely Monitored Systems are linked to an alarm receiving centre, which will filter the activation and notify the Police and keyholders on your behalf. This level of response is only available for systems that have been certified by an approved company, such as Alert Fire and Security Ltd.
Why Not Bells Only?
Simple, just because you have an alarm system installed it doesn't mean that you are fully protected. Bells and sounders are usually ignored and wires for the alarm may be damaged or cut, so there is no point wasting money on a system that can be easily defeated.
Choosing a remotely monitored alarm system from Alert Fire and Security will ensure peace of mind, whilst providing a cost effective solution.
Our Intruder Alarm Monitoring & Maintenance packages are as follows:
Silver: Only £19 per month
Gold: Only £29 per month
Platinum: Only £44 per month
