Blaze at Trailer Factory in Yorkshire #yorkshirefire #factoryfire

An investigation has been launched after more than 70 firefighters were called to a huge blaze at a haulage trailer factory in Market Weighton in the East Riding of Yorkshire this weekend.

Fireman Rob Grayson said: "When we arrived, the firefighters were confronted by a large fire which was spreading quickly.

"Site management had already evacuated the site and they provided us with plans of the building and information on hazardous materials."

It took over 2 hours to extinguished the fire but officers remained at the factory until 5am on the Saturday morning. Luckily only 15 per cent of the building was damaged by heat.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze.

A 'suitable and sufficient' fire risk assessment must be carried out on all commercial properties in England and Wales under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

If the assessment is deemed to be insufficient the Responsible Person can face an unlimited fine or a prison sentence of up to two years.

Suspicious Fire at Darlington recycling firm #darlingtonfire #suspiciousfire

Police are treating a fire that broke out in the offices of a recycling firm in Darlington as suspicious.

Fire crews were called to Total Recycling Services in Lingfield Way at 11.20pm on Saturday (23rd June) where they discovered the office was well alight and had caused significant damage to the back corner of the building.

The building was empty at the time of the incident and the fire service has confirmed that there were no injuries.

John Robson, group manager for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, revealed that it was unclear why there were a number of fires in the building.

"The investigation will hopefully bring that matter to light – we are keeping an open mind," he told the news provider.

Spate of fires hit derelict Aberdeen factory #factoryfire #firesinberdeens #firesafety

Fire crews have been tackling a spate of fires at a disused factory in Aberdeen, it has been reported.

Firefighters were called to the derelict Broadford Works facility in the city yesterday lunchtime .

The fire brigade believe fires were being started deliberately after fire safety officers had to tackle three blazes.

After dealing with those fires, they were then alerted to another blaze in a lift shaft at about 3.30pm

It follows a fire at the former Richards textile mill site, which is home to more than 100 buildings, earlier this week.

A 'suitable and sufficient' fire risk assessment must be conducted on all commercial properties in Scotland under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005.

If this fire risk assessment is judged to have not been carried out to a suitable extent, the Duty Holder for the establishment can face up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine.
